SBP's HUNTER SHOOT: This is NOT a tournament, but a SKILL TEST! Each archer tests his skill and knowledge against what is presented by the range. 28 targets set with 3 that must be passed over, Blood trailing, blinds, stands, safety displays, demonstrations presented, and 20 questions to be answered on the course. Scoring and vitals are set different than an open tournament. All shots are at 3D animals at ethical distances. Seven levels are obtainable in the SOUTHERN BOWHUNTERS PROGRAM based upon your individual achievements. Bring any kill reports or proof of Kills with you. If you have completed the IBEP class, bring your certificate. Bring P&Y score sheet on any trophy animals you have collected. This will be the 10th year Big Oak Archery Club has held this event with participation rising each year. Everyone who has shot the Hunter Shoot has both enjoyed and learned from it. The only competition is between you and the course.
History of the SBP
Over the last two decades, the attendance for outdoor 3D tournaments at archery shoots has been trending downwards at a discerning rate. When archers have been polled as to reasons for not participating, some of the reasons mentioned are: (1) Didn't like the competitiveness, (2) The distances to the targets are unrealistic, (3) "I just want to practice with my hunting set-up. I can't afford $1,000 plus dollars just to compete!", (4) "The only trophies that matter are the top three in each class, the rest are just luck on the break line!", (5) "I don't want to wait around all day just to see if I won a "DUST CATCHER". Besides, no one is going to see it after today anyway." And the list goes on.
On August 9th, 1998, a small group of bowhunters with the help of Big Oak Archery Club introduced a new program to the men and women who enjoyed the 3D shoots but for one reason or another, did not like the way the tournaments were going. We offered them a test based on Skill, Knowledge, Achievements, Safety, and Ethics. The response has been outstanding with attendance increasing each year. We call it the SOUTHERN BOWHUNTER'S PROGRAMS'HUNTER'S SHOOT!!!
